Dedicated Servers

Web Hosting is much more than just registering a domain name and then getting a cheap shared web hosting account. Once you move up with your needs you are going look for dedicated servers as your web hosting solution. There hundreds if not thousands of web hosts that offer dedicated servers. It’s often hard to find a good one for the long term. I usually limit my search to about 2 dedicated server providers:

  • ThePlanet.com
  • LiquidWeb.com

The reason is fairly simple and I will explain why I prefer these hosts and for what reason. The main reason for me to consider both of these web hosts for dedicated servers is their support. Both providers offer support levels many other web hosting providers will never reach. The other reason is uptime. When running a web-based business server uptime of your dedicated server is kind of important – wouldn’t you agree?! Both providers, ThePlanet.com and Liquidweb provide excellent uptime with their servers and through their services. Both providers offer world-class like data centers and network uplinks to the Internet.

And the third important component in this mix is pricing. Pricing for a dedicated server is quite critical as it can make it either affordable or too expensive for you to do business with a provider. Both, Liquidweb and ThePlanet offer very affordable pricing. If you price out a dedicated server you’ll end up in about the same price range for a comparable server. Liquidweb has the “fully managed” option already build-in, while ThePlanet.com offers either small add-on packages or a full blown managed option (Alpha Professional) that you can purchase. Recently (January 2009) I had a server spec’d out by ThePLanet and it came out with a very affordable price for a server providing RAID1 protection (screenshot below). A similar server at Liquidweb ran about $40 cheaper at the same time.

So, there you have it. If you are in the market for a reliable dedicated server that keeps your online business running, look at specials of  ThePLanet.com and at Liquidweb.com. I am currently hosting with ThePlanet.com and I have been extremely happy with them.
