What is cPanel?

CPanel is a fully featured web-based control panel that allows a web hosting customer to manage an Internet domain through the web browser and an easy to use web interface. The basic idea behind cPanel is to transfer as much control of a domain and the responsibility of managing your web site to to the hosting client.
The hosting clients then has the ability to manage all aspects of e-mail, files, backup, FTP, CGI scripts, and web site statistics. This ability reduces waiting time for clients when needing basic support. Instead of waiting for the support team the client can easily do most of the day to day tasks himself.
Can a hosting client install cPanel on his account himself? No, cPanel is a server-based application. The web host needs to license cPanel on a per server base and can then offer the web control panel functionality to his clients.
Does the client needs to turn to the makers of cPanel when needing help with cPanel? No, the web host is and stays the main point of contact to the client. If there is a need for cPanel help, the web host would then contact cPanel support.
