2005 is knockin’ at the door

Hi there,

The year 2004 is almost over. Just a handful of days left before we enter the next year. We would like to take the moment and thank everyone for visiting our website. We started the year as Webhostingreport.net and will end it as Webhostingresourcekit.com. In 2004 I started the process of moving away from being a just a web host to become a provider of information. We did web hosting for almost 2 years. During that time I learned many things related to web hosting and found something that catches our interest more than just being a web hosting provider. Working behind the curtain and doing more business management and strategic stuff allows me to put my skills better to work.

So, in early 2004 I decided to change the way my business was heading to. I am still providing web hosting to a small group of clients. It pays the bills for my own server and allows me to concentrate more on things I can do better. Things that are of more interest to me and make me work even harder to be successful. The Webhostingreport.net was a first step into the right direction, but it wasn’t planned through properly and the growth of the website caught me off guard a little bit. But that’s when my strengths and skills are put to work as its best. The result was the Webhostingresourcekit.com website launched in early December. The site has been put on a very sophisticated software platform and allows me to grow the site with ease. So, in 2005 I hope to have the site properly positioned for the search engines to do their work (to deliver more traffic). Of course that is not the only thing I will do to make the site more successful, but it will allow me free up resources that I can put to work at other projects. Interesting times ahead.

Anyway – I am not telling you this just because. I think that there is something in it for you, too. When you start a business you should really like what you do. In the very beginning I really liked web hosting a lot but as I still had a full-time job at the same I had suddenly two things that required attention 24/7. It worked well in the beginning but over the period of 1.5 years it started being very stressful and I did not identify myself with it 100%. Time to reconsider things and to change direction to something I would love 100% again. It’s not a sign of being weak re-evaluating your business and personal situation – it’s a sign of strength. You have to adapt to a changing environment over time to stay afloat. I am not running a business to be just 80% happy. If the business will pay for my mortgage one day I have to be 100% sure that this is what I want. And so do you when running a hosting business. Maybe you just need to find a new niche market to serve and things get to the point where you really like it. Always question yourself and make changes if you think it will make you more successful and more happy.
Well, tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Time to relax and to spend time with the family. Have a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2005. 2005 will be great. I can’t wait until it starts.
Take care
