Many moons ago I signed up to become an affiliate with JustHost.com to earn money from referring customers to them. They gave me a test account because when I write reviews I at least want to have seen and tested their environment. I think if you are honest when reviewing products and services the reader will feel it and it makes you more trustworthy. [Read more…]
The old saying that goes like this “You get what you pay” in regards to quality of a products is partially true when it comes to web hosting. However, one main difference is the nature of how web hosting works at the lower end of the scale. Shared web hosting over the years has really reached the bottom end of where prices can go. Large web hosting providers have driven down prices dramatically, but do require a pre-payment of 12 months or more in return. New web hosting providers trying to compete with these companies have to go through a cut throat process to gain customers. The main difference I see here is that these newer web hosts do not require a pre-payment of 12 months or more – they offer lower prices on a month by month basis.
That’s where things get out of whack and that’s where cheap web hosting can put your website at risk. While the larger web hosts have enough cash flow to work things out, smaller web hosting providers do not. When things do not work out as they hope, they have to eventually shutdown business and take everything down with them. That is the situation you want to avoid. Cheap web hosting is a good deal if you do your homework upfront. You can save a lot of money by going with a cheap web host, but you have to pick a web host that is established and has a proven track record.
If you are able and willing to pre-pay going with a provider like JustHost or IX Web Hosting you easily cut your web hosting cost in half. You can bring your web hosting fees down to less than $4.00 per month without losing out on features, bandwidth, disk space, or support. However, you need to determine if your website is a good fit for one of those web hosts. Most personal or small business websites fit that category well. Websites of power users or larger business websites do not fit well.
The following list shows my current favorites for cheap web hosting (in no particular order).
It is never too late to start a website. Be it a business website or a personal website, the Internet community will pick you up for sure – all you need is some cheap web hosting. There are many ways to go online with your content (pictures, text, blog, forums, etc.), but it can be quite daunting if you have never done it before. A good way to get started without breaking the bank is to work with a reliable web host that takes care of many of the startup items for you. One of the cheap web hosts I like is the team of Just Host.
Just Host is dedicated to make your web hosting experience a good one. If you are new to web hosting and want to start with a new website, they offer everything you need to get started appropriately. For one, there are no hidden fees and their hosting packages cover every angle. What sticks out is the free domain name for life promise combined with a cool site builder tool. Who says you need to learn programming to have a website?! Just build your own website the easy way with the site builder and automatically upload it to your new account. Or pick the WordPress Blog installer from the Fanastico Script section and start your own blog in less than 2 minutes. If you are not familiar with web hosting, things might look a little scary, but Just Host has taken that piece completely out of it. And if you are still stuck, open a support ticket. Their support team does not bit or makes fun of you – they actually want to help you and to get the most out of your cheap web hosting package.
Just Host has convinced me through their pricing and their feature-rich web hosting packages.
So, I was recently introduced to a new (new for me) web hosting company called JustHost.com. Since web hosting is the mantra of this website, I decided to provide a review about this web hosting provider. Now, keep in mind that I receive a lot of requests and recommendations for new web hosts and that I just do not have the time to look at every web host out there. Before I spent time reviewing a web host I make myself familiar with their website, do some research and then decide if I want to review them or not. JustHost.com passed my initial test and the result is a series of postings about this web host. I also want to point out that this is the first web host, where I created some video web hosting reviews.
Let’s get started reviewing this web host. JustHost.com was founded in 2008 and currently employs roughly 110 highly skilled folks. The company is home to approx. 280,000 domain names at the time of this writing. What I liked was that they are using brand name servers to offer cheap web hosting services. They are using Dell branded servers. I have been working with Dell servers myself for over 11 years now and really like them. So, this already scored some brownie points with me. 😉
Once my account for one of my test sites was setup I logged into the cpanel of my domain. Cpanel is a web control panel for hosting customers. It provides an easy to use interface and allows customers to self-serve many web hosting related functions without the need for customer support to help. I use Cpanel on ALL of my domains no matter where they are hosted. I love it. So, instead of writing down what I saw first inside my JustHost web hosting account, I created a video (see video in the upper right). Please take a look and check it out (it’s a short video – I promise).
Now that you have watched the video, I want to highlight a few points. Most of the items inside the video I liked. Instead of causing confusion for customers before they sign up, JustHost.com went a different route. They actually make it a great approach to a) educate a customer about available upgrades without really being pushy and b) it is very straight forward. The one thing I did not like are the 2 options for the search engine submissions. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has become very complicated and I think that this type of work should be a more controlled process. But that is the only thing I did not like. The other options are reasonably priced and compare easy to other web hosts. So, if I would be a regular Joe looking for cheap web hosting, this would be a great way to a) buy cheap web hosting and b) still have options available to grow a website.
This posting is part of a series of postings about JustHost.com – for me a top web hosting company.
Please Note: In the video I mentioned that I do not know how long these upgrades are available. The seem to be available at all times. So, if you want to sign up with JustHost, this should not hold you back. Check out the JustHost.com Homepage here.
