This is an actual Host Gator customer who decided to review his web hosting provider in public. He did so on one of the well known web hosting forums on the Internet. If you are interested in web hosting with Hostgator this is definitely worth checking out. And if you do not know Host Gator webhosting, Hostgator is one of the largest web hosts currently around. The company grew from a college dorm room into a company with own data centers in different locations and hundreds of employees.
Here is a summary of the web hosting review (and of course a link to the source): [Read more…]
The answer for this question is easy: The answer is: “Yes” and “No”. Now that you are confused, let me explain this in a little more detail.
IX Hosting claims that with their offer of “FREE” unlimited domains this actually means the ability for you to host unlimited domains without any extra charges or fees on your IX Web Hosting account. This offer does not include the actual domain registration fee which is around $10 depending on where you register it these. Many people seem to get confused when they hear about unlimited domain web hosting and I agree – the verbage is often misleading. [Read more…]
Web Hosting is usually a pre-pay business. You pay for your web hosting in advance and then next month you get charged again and so on. Over the years this has worked out great. Then quite a few web hosts started offering pre-pay terms of up to 3 years. Pay once and then pay again in a year or so – in return for your trust you receive a huge discount on the price for web hosting. Not a bad deal, eh?!
There are a few things to consider though. For one, it is important to be careful who you trust with your money. You do not want to have prepaid for 2 years and then your web host disappears after 7 months. So, when signing up and pre-paying for web hosting it is important to see who you are working with. If a company is around for many years and has a certain reputation and market share, pre-paying for longer terms is usually safe. If a company is small and new and not well established, then do not pre-pay for more than 1 quarter in advance.
Why not to pre-pay for the long term with certain hosts? If the host disappears your money is gone, too. Once a credit card payment is older than 60 days your chances of getting a chargeback approved are very slim. Again, this is usually only an issue with smaller, newer, and not well established web hosts.
So, which web hosts can you trust in my opinion? I have worked with many web hosts over the years. I have been watching the web hosting industry and the following 3 names definitely stick out for me. My recommendations are in order of how much I like or prefer each company. The #3 host on this is also the youngest company on this list (founded in 2008), but has a) reached quite some volume and b) has established a solid brand reputation.
These 3 web hosts offer very low prices when pre-paying web hosting for up to 3 years. You can read my reviews about these 3 web hosts here.
I recently added another web hosting account to the mix and this time I picked Hostgator. Hostgator web hosting is well known in the industry by webmasters, but often less known by normal consumers. Hostgator offers very generous hosting plans which explains the fact that so many webmasters pick Hostgator for their web hosting provider. But that should not pull away attention from the fact that Hostgator is a great web host for everyone.
Here is an example. I made a mistake during the sign-up process and submitted a ticket within 15 minutes after having signed up. The ticket response was very fast and the did not ask unnecessary questions or made it difficult for me to get the mistake that I had made corrected. They just did it and life was good.
My Website required a few custom pieces to be installed on the web server and I was ready to submit the necessary support requests, but that was not necessary. What 2 other web hosts were not able to provide even after asking and explaining from my side, was a non-issue at Hostgator. Everything worked right out of the box and that saved me a lot of time. Kudos to Hostgator for this.
When I logged into cPanel for the first time I was greeted by the “Gator”. Ha ha – Hostgator has a custom cPanel Skin in place which looks pretty cool, but also gives them the ability to place custom links to other parts of their website.
Since I did not know if Hostgator would be working out for me, I did sign up with monthly payments. Now that I know that this will be the permanent home for that one website of mine, I might change that and at least switch to quarterly payments to take advantage of the lower pricing.
So, for me Hostgator has again proved to be a great web host. Visit Hostgator here to check out the different web hosting plans.
