This is an actual Host Gator customer who decided to review his web hosting provider in public. He did so on one of the well known web hosting forums on the Internet. If you are interested in web hosting with Hostgator this is definitely worth checking out. And if you do not know Host Gator webhosting, Hostgator is one of the largest web hosts currently around. The company grew from a college dorm room into a company with own data centers in different locations and hundreds of employees.
Here is a summary of the web hosting review (and of course a link to the source):
On the first hand, I must say I’m not an unlimited fan, but HostGator is probably the best in the scheme out there. They are renown for their good and fast support along with load server loads.
If you feel this provider wasn’t enough for your needs, maybe you should consider another type of hosting other than shared instead of blaming the host.
Running multiple scripts, if they are kinda heavy will use alot of CPU resources which is not intended for normal shared hosting. VPS and dedicated servers are more suite for it.Many things are to be considered when saying a host is not good. Did you experience any downtime except from the low loading speeds? Those speeds, as told above, could be increased by using another type of hosting like VPS.
I wouldnt blame HostGator.
When you say: “The moral? Running scriptS? Pick another host. Not running scripts? Your fine with hostgator.”I would change this to: “The moral? Running scriptS? Pick another type of hosting. Not running scripts? Your fine with shared hosting”
End Summary
Keep in mind that this was a response to a negative review about Host Gator. When reading reviews you really need to check what is the reason for the review. It is also important to know about the situation. In this case a Host Gator customer was complaining about slow servers and related issues, but as you can determine here that particular customer used shared web hosting to run scripts or applications that would require a VPS (Virtual Private Server) as the minimum and not a shared web hosting.
I have run websites on Hostgator with no issues – including a SOAP based script for a financial website with fairly high traffic volume. The Host Gator server was configured properly right from the start for me and I did not had the need for Hostgator to make changes to the shared environment. I also have to note that I am no longer hosting with Host Gator due to having needs that just do not work well in a shared web hosting environment.
So, when you are looking for web hosting and want uptime and good server response times, analyze first what the requirements for your website are. If you expect thousands of visitors daily and run some scripts that most likely tax the server, then you should not use a shared web host – no matter if you pick Hostgator or JustHost or IX Web Hosting. It will not work. However, if you have a moderate website (even with thousands of visitors per day) and run something like WordPress, you should be fine with shared web hosting in most cases.
Save yourself headaches and save yourself from wasting time complaining in a forum, by doing your homework upfront. With proper homework done for web hosting you can actually enjoy your website and be more productive with things that really count.
