Don’t hijack customer domain names. If a client purchased a domain name from you and then leaves you later on to host somewhere – let him go and continue to provide first class service. Hijacking a domain name to keep the customer is a very bad idea. You will get opposite results doing this. Make sure that a leaving customer knows how to access the domain name services he still might need.
Do you get rich from selling domain names? No, probably not. It is an add-on service to your web hosting business. It gives you only little revenue every time you sell a domain name. But over the years you can create a steady stream of renewal fees and one day it will add up. Patience is the key to success here.
