Start a Web Hosting Business – Step 16

by WHRKIT on November 26, 2004

Setup a helpdesk (optional: and create a support section with tutorials and FAQs)
Having hosting customers will mean that you have to give them support options. Remember – as a reseller you are able to pass on support requests to your own web host and then return the results to your own customers. Of course it is better if you can handle everything yourself – so, always pay attention and be pro-active. Your learning curve will be fast and it will take only a short time to support your clients the way you want it – with world-class customer service. Remember: customer service is one of the keys to this business. You will not be successful if you fail here.
We recommend a free helpdesk product to start out with. Unless you have bought one of the software packages mentioned in step 11 a professional helpdesk system will be a great help for you. Our recommendation is: One or Zero Helpdesk
The software is free and easy to install. The software maker also offers great support himself so that you can ask for assistance with the product.

You can also check what scripts are coming with your own web hosting account. Many of the newer control panel software packages included offer the installation of free to use scripts – including helpdesk software. With the click of a few buttons you would be up and running.
Optional: create a support section with tutorials and FAQs

If you have enough time you should start building up a knowledge base or FAQ section for your clients. This will help to dramatically decrease the need for support. Instead of asking you the clients will be able to help themself by looking up the information themself. What information will you need? It depends a little bit on control you will be using as well as what platform your reseller will be on. Ask your own web host what information from their website you will be able to use and use that as a start.
Cost associated with this step: $0.00
Money spend so far: $204.93 (one-time)
Money spend so far: $35.00 (recurring per month)
