Start a Web Hosting Business – Step 12

Purchase a SSL certificate

Doing business on the Internet should be safe. You would not like to submit personal data over the Internet unless it is encrypted.
If you have chosen to go with PayPal or 2Checkout for the credit card payments they provide the SSL encryption themself. But for your own signup process to collect the customer data you should implement a SSL certificate.
There are many different kinds available, but you do not need to spend money on the most expensive ones. A low cost SSL certificate will do the job just fine.
We recommend the Starter SSL Certificate sold by EV1Servers:
At the time of this writing they sell their certs for a low $4.95 per year. Normal price is around $20.00 per year. This is a fantastic deal. We purchased 2 of these certificates so far and are very happy with the process and the price.

For our cost calculation we still use the regular price. We’d rather cover the worst-case scenario for you so that you know how much it will cost you to start your own web hosting business – without hidden surprises.

Also see Step 13 for additional information.

Cost associated with this step (regular price): $20.00 (one-time)
Money spend so far: $204.93 (one-time)
Money spend so far: $35.00 (recurring per month)
