Web Hosting Resource Kit – Editor’s Opinion 14/2004

Christmas is starting early this year. There are already plenty of house in my neighborhood that have the Christmas lights hooked up and turned on at night. The radio stations play Christmas songs and we have even seen Santa at the Mall already. What about Thanksgiving and “Happy Turkey”? Is “Turkey Day” now part of Christmas? I am surprised how the retail industry is pushing Christmas that early this year. How will this affect the overall spending of consumers – especially during the days very close to Christmas itself? Will they see a drop in sales and then have to lower prices to attract last minute spending?

Well, there is not really a Christmas Season for web hosting – other than that sales might drop during the holidays here and there. What if Christmas would come early for web hosts and the last week of the year is filled with new signups and people hitting their bandwidth limits (unlikely – I know) and need to upgrade? Would this be possible at all? What would it take to create a Christmas rush for web hosting? Look at the retail industry and they are all pulling the same strings and play the Christmas shopping card. Now imagine the web hosting industry pulling together and doing something similar. Possible? Sure. If you can dream it, you can do it. Likely to happen? Possibly not.

What do you think? Let’s talk. Please register and let’s discuss.

Until next time ….
